When Lightning Strikes

When Lightning Strikes

My Mac Studio in better days.

It started with a bolt of lightning and a clap of thunder so loud that I jumped out of my seat. I was sitting at my desk on the Friday before Easter, wrapping up MacStories Weekly on my Mac Studio during a thunderstorm, when the lightning struck. Other than startling me, though, everything seemed fine. The lights didn’t even blink, but I immediately noticed something wasn’t right. My Internet connection had dropped. When I looked, I noticed I was no longer connected via Ethernet. However, strangely, my iPhone was still connected to WiFi.

My first thought was that the lightning might have damaged the Ethernet wiring in my walls. I was busy finishing Weekly, so I didn’t have time to troubleshoot the issue, and I could get by with WiFi if need be, even if the coverage isn’t great in my office. However, I did try one thing. Step one of almost any troubleshooting is to restart your Mac.
