Turning a Things Task's Notes into a Markdown Document

I shared my collection of advanced shortcuts for the Things app in the Automation Academy for Club Plus and Premier members yesterday, but as I was finalizing the story, I realized there was one more shortcut I wanted to build, which I could share here in MacStories Weekly.

Lately, I’ve noticed that I’ve started taking advantage of the ability to add Markdown-formatted notes to tasks in Things to start outlining ideas and write down bits of sentences for articles before I actually create a new Markdown document in Obsidian. Maybe it’s the fact that Things Cloud sync is so fast and reliable, or maybe it’s – unsurprisingly – the intuitive design of Things that lends itself well to this use case, but I like being able to create a basic outline for a post or section of the newsletter while the associated task is still sitting in Things. However, when the time comes to turn that task’s notes field into a proper document for further writing in my text editor, I don’t want to create the document manually and copy and paste my notes between two different apps. The process should be automated.
