Three Things Apple Should Make Now
Three Things Apple Should Make Now
With the Vision Pro, Apple swung for the hardware fences. It’s still too early to know whether that big bet will pay off for the company, so while we wait for the future, I’d like to see Apple place some smaller hardware bets. I’ve already talked about a game controller, which I’m convinced will never happen, even though I think it should. Another popular wish is for Apple to make Wi-Fi routers again. That, too, seems like an obvious win paired with HomeKit devices and services like Apple TV+, Apple Music, and Apple Fitness+, but it doesn’t seem likely, either. So today, I want to shift the focus to three other products that have the potential to support Apple’s other hardware and could be built today.
Multi-Connection Peripherals
Like everyone else, I can’t wait for Apple to move to USB-C on its keyboards, mice, and trackpads. I’d buy a new USB-C Magic Keyboard and Trackpad in a heartbeat. I’m typing this story on a Magic Keyboard that has far too many miles of typing on it. The keys are worn to a smooth polish, and some stick now and then. The trackpad is still serviceable, but so little in my office charges via Lightning that I find myself digging around for the correct cable to charge it and my keyboard far too often.
