Teaching Myself Blender and the Desire to Keep Learning

By now, many of you have probably seen my watchOS 11 review on the site. (And if you haven’t, please read it; I’m very needy.) You may have noticed the section header images of Apple Watches half sunken into a white surface and some shallow-focus Apple Watches containing the various screenshots for the piece. It’s quite easy to guess that these are 3D renders. (You can also tell because they’re imperfect in places, but I won’t say where!)
I created them all in Blender, a powerful 3D graphics app that is completely free to use and open source. The thing is, I didn’t know how to use Blender this time last month; I went through a crash course to learn just enough to create images like this to make my review a bit more exciting. Maybe this was because I was worried my review wouldn’t be good enough, or perhaps it was just because I wanted something flashier than some simple Apple Watch mockups.
