Substage

Substage is one of the most clever AI-powered utilities that I’ve used on my Mac so far. The app uses AI to translate natural language prompts into Terminal commands, simplifying the process of manipulating files. The clever bit is that instead of navigating to a different app to manage your files, Substage comes to the user, right in Finder.

When activated via the app’s menu bar item or global hotkey, Substage appears as a window that extends from the bottom of your Finder window. Substage’s window is dominated by a text field for typing your prompts. Beneath the text field, you can choose which LLM to use. There are several options in the app’s settings, and you’ll need to add your own API tokens to use them, but I’ve settled on Claude 3.7 Sonnet, which has worked well with most of my requests.
