Setting a Keyboard Shortcut for the Mac's Control Center

As I wrote in the Monthly Log earlier this week, one of the glaring omissions of Big Sur is the fact that you can’t use Control Center from a keyboard. The feature, which was added to macOS last fall, has a long way to go before it matches the utility of Control Center on iOS and iPadOS. However, it’s still a handy way to access commonly-accessed system features.

Fortunately, Bartender 4, which is still in public beta, has added a hot key feature that fills the gap. To set up a Control Center hot key, open Bartender’s preferences and go to the Hot Keys tab. At the bottom of the window is an ‘Add menu bar hot key’ button that lets you add a hot key for any of the apps or functions in the menu bar. All you need to do is choose Control Center, pick a key combination, and use the default ‘Left Click’ option to set up your keyboard shortcut.
