Revisiting Reminders

Revisiting Reminders

With my macOS Sequoia review out of the way, I’ve begun new app and hardware experiments. The first thing I did was move all of my tasks to Reminders. It’s been over nine months since I last used the app regularly, and I wanted to see what kind of difference its latest updates, as well as those to Remind Me Faster, would make in my daily routine. It’s too early to say if Reminders will stick long-term, but I thought I’d share how I’m approaching the app because, so far, the switch has been going really well.

The first rule of my Reminders routine is that everything has to have a due date. I have a Smart List of tasks without due dates that I go through periodically, assigning dates as I go. If I come across something that feels like it shouldn’t have a due date, I take the item out of Reminders and add it to a planning note in Obsidian that I also review periodically. Being disciplined about dates has helped a lot because I no longer have a bunch of half-baked ideas and random links floating around in Reminders cluttering up what needs to get done, but I still have a place to save those undated items for later.
