Removing HomePod mini Home Hubs
About a month ago, I returned the two HomePod minis Apple loaned me for my review and removed both from the Home app. Recently, while I was cleaning up some issues with a couple of HomeKit devices and testing the excellent HomeRun 2, I noticed an alert in Home that two Home hubs were unavailable, which were the HomePod minis I’d returned. Hubs are listed in the Home app’s Home Settings, so I went there to remove the minis, which was wrong.
It turns out you can only remove Home hubs (at least the HomePod mini ones) from your iCloud settings in the Settings app. Go to Settings, tap on your name at the top, and then scroll down to your devices and remove any hubs you no longer own. The location makes sense to a degree because it’s where your other Apple products are listed. Still, given that one of the Home app’s main functions is to add and remove devices, I think the ability to remove a HomePod mini as a hub ought to be listed in the Home app too.
