My Magic Keyboard Story

My Magic Keyboard Story

Today on the latest episode of Adapt, Federico and I discuss, among other things, the new Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro. I’ve been using both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch models, and shared on the podcast how my experience with both has been a bit of an adventure. For about half a day last week, I shockingly found myself in the situation where I planned to return both keyboards and stick with my Smart Keyboard Folio.

One detail of the Magic Keyboard that’s been covered in every review I’ve seen is that it’s top-heavy. Even though this keyboard enables your iPad Pro to become as close to a laptop as possible, the design of the product nonetheless makes it entirely different in an important way: the majority of the weight lies up top with the screen, whereas the keyboard base at the bottom is the lighter half of the setup. With laptops, of course, the situation is reversed: the bulk of weight is at the bottom, in the keyboard section, while the screen is significantly lighter. It’s a change that’s not ideal, since the standard laptop form factor is so tried and true, but regardless there’s really no other option with the iPad.
