When Google launched its search engine in 1998, the leading players in search were AltaVista, Yahoo!, and Ask Jeeves, to name three. Considering how huge and dominating Google Search has become, it’s incredible to look back on those days. Google now accounts for around 80% of all search traffic. Even with buzzy alternatives like ChatGPT, rivals like Bing aren’t even close to Google’s size.

Not long ago, Google was the ultimate tool to help you sort through the mess on the Internet to find what you wanted. It’s fair to say those days are gone. Google Search is now filled with ads, clickbait, shopping, and more ‘stuff’ you never really need.
