iOS Apps with Alternate Icons, Vol. 2
It’s been nearly two years since Apple granted third-party apps the ability to offer alternate app icons. In that time the feature has proven a well-received addition, with many apps going all out with creative showcases of diverse alternatives, while others offer a still-nice assortment of alternate color choices for the default icon. Joining our choices for volume 1 of this collection, here are some of the apps that have best implemented alternate icons.
Apollo
Apollo is hands-down one of the App Store’s top examples of alternate icons. Not only are there a ton of creative variations of the standard Apollo icon, but the app also recently began offering a new custom icon each month to users of its Ultra subscription plan. The first few monthly icons, as you can see in the far-right image, have been brilliant.
