Date Picker: A Faster Way to Pick Dates

This week’s ‘2024-WK27’ note.

I generate a lot of files every week, whether they be text documents, audio files, or something else. I have pretty good systems in place for organizing everything so that I can find files again. But, like a lot of people, those systems sometimes break down when I am busy. Files don’t end up where they should go, and when I’m in a rush, I don’t always put much thought into naming them, either, which makes search difficult.

One of my lines of defense against this problem is to use dates liberally. I automatically drop the creation date and modification date of articles I’m writing in Obsidian’s YAML metadata, but I also frequently add dates manually to note titles, in the body of notes for reference purposes, and in a variety of other places. I do this because I can usually pin down the day or week I was working on something, so the dates help with search.
