Changing the Text Size of Specific Apps on iOS and iPadOS

Last week, I was spending some time in the Club MacStories+ Discord server (which continues to be an incredible place to hang out and talk about Apple news, apps, videogames, and more), and I realized that I was squinting at my iPad Pro’s display to make out the very small font size Discord was using by default. After a brief moment of thinking “wow, I’ve turned into an old guy”, I got my self-esteem back and remembered this is a problem that can be easily remedied on iOS and iPadOS.

Starting with iOS 15, Apple added the ability to control the text size (based on Dynamic Type) of individual apps from Control Center. To do this, open Settings ⇾ Control Center and add the ‘Text Size’ button to your list of controls. Then, next time you’re in an app that you’d like to have a bigger (or, if you’re younger than me, smaller) font, open Control Center and select the new Text Size toggle. Now, pay attention: you’ll see a slider that defaults to controlling text size for ‘All Apps’, which is the Control Center equivalent of changing text size system-wide from Settings. Instead of doing this, you’ll want to tap the ‘[App Name] Only’ button next to it, which switches the text size control to operate for the app currently in the foreground.
