Bluesky Social
Bluesky Social is a new decentralized social network that has a lot in common with Twitter. The service is still in beta and is invitation-only, but its app is available on the App Store and received some significant updates this week.
Bluesky has a long way to go as an app. It has tabs to view your timeline, search for posts, view notifications, an open your profile. There’s also a ‘What’s Hot’ tab under the timeline view. Overall, the experience is a lot like a stripped down version of Twitter.
The app is clearly an unfinished work-in-progress, but it was validly criticized early on for the inability to block accounts and its lack of accessibility features. This week, Bluesky added the ability to block accounts. Muting and reporting accounts are also options. Accessibility features, including alt text on images has been added too. The app still needs a lot of polish, but seems to be evolving as quickly as the service itself, which is good to see.
