Halide

Halide was updated this week with Neural Telephoto, which gives non-Pro iPhones that don’t have a telephoto lens a software-based telephoto solution that’s better than simply cropping the image. Cropping to simulate zooming into a scene causes blurriness and jaggy edges in photos. With Neural Telephoto, Halide sharpens the photo and smooths out the jaggy lines using machine learning. The technique is similar to Pixelmator Pro’s Super Resolution feature that uses machine learning to increase the size of a photo without making it blurry. The difference with Halide is that it’s also cropping, giving the illusion of zooming with a real telephoto lens.
