A More Laid-Back But Geeky Approach to Health and Fitness Apps

On balance, I’m optimistic about technology and the role apps can play in people’s lives. However, I’ve also experienced and seen enough of the ways apps can harm people that my optimism is tempered by realism these days. Nowhere is that more true than with health and fitness apps, which hold so much promise to help, but also to hurt.

What got me thinking about this again recently was a review of the Withings Body Smart scale by Victoria Song of The Verge. I was curious to hear what she thought of the scale because her coverage of wearables and health and fitness tech is excellent. Plus, I bought Withings’ similar Body Comp scale for myself a couple of months ago to replace an older model, and I was curious to see how our experiences compared.
