Three Changes for Productivity I'm Excited About in iOS and iPadOS 17
It’s new beta season and, as you can imagine, now that I’m back home and I’ve recovered from my WWDC trip, I’ve started really digging into the iOS and iPadOS 17 betas in preparation for my annual review later this year. I have both betas on my primary iPhone and iPad Pro, and based on what I’ve seen so far and judging by the small number of technical sessions I’ve saved, this year should be a relatively easy one for me. iOS 17 has a lot of nice quality-of-life improvements and a heavy focus on widgets and app-related tweaks, but it lacks a big overhaul to a system area like last year’s Lock Screen; iPadOS 17 mostly builds upon the foundation of Stage Manager, fixing a lot of the issues I covered last year.
This is not surprising given Apple’s work on visionOS and Vision Pro this year, and I’m not complaining. I think this review is going to be fun. After last year’s…challenging beta period with Stage Manager and the fact I didn’t end up publishing a unified iOS/iPadOS review, I could use a low-key return to form with a review that revolves around apps and widgets for both platforms.
