The Potential of Obsidian Bookmarks
The Potential of Obsidian Bookmarks
As I recently mentioned on both AppStories and Connected, I’ve been using Notion as my note-taking app for the past few months. There are various reasons behind this experiment:
- The huge letdown of Stage Manager last year set me down a path of experimentation with all kinds of hardware and software in my life to see what I’d been missing after years of exclusive iPad usage;
- I wanted to see whether I can be the kind of person that keeps Markdown notes and Markdown blog posts separate using two different apps;
- I was intrigued by the idea of Notion supporting text, images, and rich links with the ability to inter-connect different types of content;
- Notion has a web API, which meant I could put together shortcuts to save ideas without opening the main note-taking app, as is the case with Obsidian, which does not have a web service with an API.
I’ve learned a lot over the last six months of my tech life, both in terms of what I want from my apps and computers as well as the kind of tech writer I want to be. One of the things I’ve learned is that, realistically speaking, I’ll never be able to stop using Obsidian because, at the end of the day, it is the one Markdown app that just “gets me” unlike anything else I’ve tried over the years. (Okay, yes Editorial was also that kind of app.) The more I try to use other tools instead of Obsidian, the more the Obsidian folks pull me back in with awesome new features that are nerdy, powerful, and ideal for people who love Markdown.
