Searching Reeder's Read Later Account with Tags, Titles, and More

A couple weeks ago John reviewed Reeder 5, a brand new version of Silvio Rizzi’s popular RSS client and read-later app that, among various iOS and iPadOS 14-related enhancements, brought support for iCloud sync and tagging. I’ve been switching back and forth between Lire and Reeder for the past few months, but I’ve decided to stick with Reeder for now thanks to its incredible UI fluidity and all-in-one approach for consuming RSS feeds and saving articles for later in the same app. One of my favorite features since version 4 of Reeder, in fact, is the ability to save articles from either your subscriptions or any other app (via an extension) in an iCloud-synced, Reeder-only ‘Read Later’ account that can coexist alongside other RSS accounts in the app. This way, I can use Reeder both as a Feedbin client and an alternative to Instapaper/Pocket/GoodLinks and take advantage of Reeder’s polished interactions and excellent typographic choices.

Reeder has offered solid integration with Shortcuts for a while now, and the app’s actions have been expanded in version 5 with the option of tagging articles saved in the Read Later account. As I was playing around with the updated actions, I had an idea: wouldn’t it be nice to have a comprehensive shortcut to search articles saved in Reeder’s Read Later account with multiple search and filtering criteria to choose from? And that’s how this week’s exclusive Club MacStories shortcut, Reeder Search, was born.
