Running Multiple Scheduled Automations with Shortcuts at Once
As you know, I’ve been diving deeper and deeper into Things as my task manager thanks to its excellent Shortcuts support and, as part of the process, I put together a series of automations that run at different times of the day. I will share these automations in the next installment of the Automation Academy (along with other shortcuts I’ve built for Things) but, to give you an idea, these are automations that deal with aspects of the app such as moving tasks to the ‘Evening’ section if their due time is after a certain time of day, or sorting the inbox in alphabetical order.
So I have a bunch of shortcuts that I want to run multiple times throughout the day, but the Shortcuts app’s Personal Automations functionality doesn’t allow users to create a trigger that says “run these shortcuts every x minutes/hours”. This means I’d have to create a timed automation for each shortcut I want to run automatically, and that just feels like busywork I’d rather avoid. So I came up with a way to save a bit of setup time and assign multiple shortcuts to the same scheduled automation in Shortcuts.
