Repurposing Quick Note for iPad as an Obsidian Launcher

As part of the process of writing my annual iOS and iPadOS review, I constantly re-evaluate Apple’s default apps and how they’ve changed over the past year. One of the apps I’m always keeping an eye on is Notes, particularly on the iPad because of its system-wide Quick Note capturing feature, which lets you capture text, links, and images wherever you are by just invoking a keyboard shortcut. Sadly, Quick Note can’t be remapped to a third-party note-taking app, and because Notes didn’t gain the deep-linking and search features I was hoping it would in iOS and iPadOS 16, I always return to my powerful, trusted friend: Obsidian.

A few nights ago, as I was worrying about the state of my iOS review at this point in the summer like I always do, I had an idea: I shouldn’t let the first-party advantage of the floating Quick Note panel go to waste. That window can be triggered anywhere on the iPad by just pressing Globe-Q, but if you’re not using it to capture text, what purpose can it serve? This is where my idea comes in.
