Improving the Experience of Using iPad Apps on a Mac

As part of my recent switch to a MacBook Air as my main computer, I’ve been on the lookout for interesting third-party apps and utilities to improve my daily usage of macOS. It’s been a few years since I really used a Mac as my primary machine, so I’m a bit rusty on what the platform offers, but I’m catching up quickly. I’ve received some excellent recommendations from Connected listeners and talking about my setup with John on AppStories has been extremely helpful and – unsurprisingly – expensive, in a good way.

One of the things I realized a few weeks ago is that, in order to make this transition from iPadOS to macOS smoother for me, I was going to have to use some iPad apps on my Mac in compatibility mode. Specifically, I wanted to use Marvis, which is a superior Apple Music client to Apple’s own native app, and Matter, my favorite read-later app at the moment. So I went ahead, downloaded both iPad apps from the App Store, opened them, and I was presented with the following UI:
