From a Balcony Light Strip to Matter Updates

My girlfriend and I have finally reached the point where we’re thinking about furniture for our balcony (we moved into our new place a year ago and, let me tell you, buying furniture and lights is…a process) and one of the things I knew I wanted to have was a multi-color light strip that would run around the entire perimeter of the balcony.

You see, the thing about our balcony is that it has this peculiar (and, at least in my opinion, stunning) design with multiple curves across the entire surface that naturally create different areas: one where we’re going to place a table, another for a couch and some chairs, and so forth. I knew I had to buy a flexible, waterproof outdoor strip that I could adapt to the shape of the balcony, but the challenge was finding one that was 30 meters in length. As you can imagine, ideally I wanted the outdoor lighting system to be entirely powered by Philips Hue lights, just like I’ve done inside the apartment. Unfortunately, Philips Hue outdoor light strips are only available in 5-meter versions, which meant I had to buy six separate strips and multiple power adapters. It was going to be expensive and a mess to properly cable-manage, and even though I at least entertained the idea, I knew it was not feasible or cost-effective.
