APP DEBUTS

Noteworthy new app releases and updates, handpicked by the MacStories team.

Denim

Denim has long been my favorite utility to create great-looking custom covers for playlists on Apple Music, and the much-anticipated 3.0 update is a fantastic next step for the app. Denim has been completely redesigned, and it now features an all-new playlist cover editor UI with many more options than before. For instance, the app can now recognize artists featured in a playlist and suggest photos of those artists as covers; it also comes with new types of emoji covers and new styles for other categories. There’s the ability to customize text, colors, and other elements of a cover. Plus, all of these covers now sync with iCloud across devices, and – my favorite touch in this update – the first time you create a cover and leave Denim to apply it, the app uses the relatively unknown Picture in Picture API to show you instructions while you’re trying to modify a playlist cover in Apple Music. If you have several playlists in the Music app and want to make sure they look their best, I can’t recommend Denim enough.
