TaskMerge, a Simple Shortcut to Merge Things Tasks into Checklists

As you may have seen on Mastodon, I’ve been trying to collect all my GameCube games from when I was a kid in an effort to digitize them and play them on modern hardware. The details of what I’m going to do are still a secret for a surprise I’m planning, but what you should know is that Wii games are next, and I realized there are serious gaps in my physical library. For that reason, I’ve been making lists of old GameCube and Wii games that I need to buy online. Surprisingly, I found most of them as “renewed” copies on Amazon that are relatively cheap and come in pretty good condition.

Anyway, every time I’d find a game that I didn’t have and wanted to buy, I’d add it to my Things inbox using my ThingsBox shortcut. Soon enough, I ended up with over 30 items in my inbox for a collection of GameCube and Wii games that needed some proper organization. And that’s when I had an idea: I wanted a simple way to select a bunch of related tasks, press a hotkey, and convert them into a checklist as part of a new “parent task”. Essentially, I wanted a shortcut to select some GameCube games, make them subtasks of a new ‘Buy GameCube Games’ task, and remove all the individual games from my inbox.
